A New Hybrid Infrared Edition of the Toyota Corolla Is Set to Make Its Debut in 2023, and It Has More Power.

For the 2023 model year, Toyota is refreshing both the GR Corolla and the standard Corolla in the USA. The sedan and hatchback also benefit from updated front and rear fascias that sharpen the vehicles' overall appearance. You can choose from new hues including Blue Crush Metallic and Blue Flame for the hatchback, or Midnight Black Metallic and Underground for the sedan.

The 2023 Corolla Hybrid LE is now $1,250 less expensive than in the previous year, which is great news for anyone concerned with minimizing their environmental impact. There has been an increase in power of 13 horsepower and 10 pound-feet, bringing the total to 134 horsepower and 156 pound-feet. The EPA estimates 50 mpg combined fuel economy for FWD models, 48 mpg for LE AWD, and 44 mpg for SE AWD. A new electric motor situated in the vehicle's rear facilitates all-wheel drive, and it engages automatically when required.

Infrared Editions of the Hybrid vehicle are based on the newly introduced SE trim. It's offered with or without all-wheel drive and features the same sportier suspension as the gasoline SE model, as well as the same, more direct electronic power steering. Red accents both inside and out help it stand out, and it's available in Ice Cap, Underground, or Midnight Black Metallic paint.

New tires and wheels are standard on the five-door gas variant, with 16-inch alloys featuring a 10-spoke design on the SE trim and 18-inch graphite-colored aluminum wheels on the XSE. Sedan SE and XSE models now come standard with 18-inch alloys finished in a glossy graphite paint. The 2023MY refresh for the Corolla Sedan SE and XSE gas variants includes redesigned headlights, a glossy black mesh lower grille, and a new rear diffuser. LED fog lights in chrome housings are an XSE exclusive addition to the hatchback.

Inside, the 2023 Toyota Corolla features a standard eight-inch touchscreen in place of the previous 4.2-inch display and an available seven-inch completely digital instrument cluster. Several new functions, including Proactive Driving Assist, Obstacle Anticipation Assist, and Deceleration Assist, have been added to the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 System for the 2018 model year.

The LE trim, which is the most often purchased, of the Corolla Sedan, has been upgraded from its previous 1.8-liter engine to a 2.0-liter "Dynamic Force" engine. The 169 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque produced by the four-cylinder engine is 30 hp and 25 lb-ft more than the engine it replaces, resulting in a 0-60 mph time that is two seconds faster. Additionally, it gets better gas mileage than its competitors, with an EPA-estimated 32 mpg in the city, 41 mpg on the interstate, and 35 mpg in the combined.

With the trim level structure being simplified for the 2023MY to just the LE, SE, and XSE, the Corolla Sedan L will be dropped. There are two hatchback trim levels, SE and XSE, and three hybrid trim levels, LE, XLE, and SE. Toyota's model page is already live, and the base price for a Corolla Sedan is $21,550, with the Corolla Hybrid starting at $22,800 and the Corolla Hatchback beginning at $22,965.
