Which 2023 Sequoia trim is best? Guide

We compare the new SUV's trims to help you choose.

The second-generation Toyota Sequoia lasted 15 years, twice as long as a normal 21st-century automobile. Toyota has redesigned its Sequoia SUV for 2023. This full-size three-row SUV's new base, engine, and interior make it competitive again.

We've driven the Sequoia's SR5, TRD Pro, and Capstone trims. Learn which model is the best deal.

2023 Toyota Sequoia SR5 Pros/Cons

SR5 is the standard 2023 Toyota Sequoia variant. No more 5.7-liter V-8. Every version of this giant Toyota employs a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6 engine (Toyota sells it as a 3.5-liter unit), an electric motor between the flywheel and torque converter, and a 10-speed automatic gearbox. This hybrid combination generates 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque and drives the rear wheels or an optional four-wheel-drive system. The 2023 Sequoia has enough power to pull passengers, goods, a trailer, or all three.

SR5 sports 18-inch alloy wheels and a power moonroof. It boasts heated seats, an 8.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument display. Standard 8-speaker audio and 3-zone temperature control. Even though the 2023 Sequoia SR5 has a smaller 8.0-inch screen, Toyota's new infotainment system is impressive (the larger 14.0-inch screen is shown below).

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 incorporates automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beams, lane centering, and traffic sign recognition. Standard blind-spot, rear cross-traffic, and parking sensors. Sequoia SR5 prices start at $59,795 2WD and $62,795 4WD.

The SR5 Premium option adds a 14-inch infotainment display, a power third row, a hands-free liftgate, and Softex seats. Sequoia SR5 cars may be ordered with the TRD Sport package, which adds 20-inch matte-black TRD wheels, TRD Bilstein monotube shocks, TRD-tuned springs, TRD interior details including aluminum pedals, and a red TRD push-button start.

The Sequoia Tow Tech package includes Toyota's Trailer Backup Guide and Straight Path Assist systems.

The Sequoia SR5 can be upgraded with the TRD Off-Road kit for off-roading. This package features a lockable rear differential, Multi-Terrain Select and Monitor, hill descent control, and crawl control. TRD-tuned Bilstein monotube shock absorbers, springs, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a red front axle driveshaft are also included. Aluminum pedals and a red TRD button update the interior.

2023 Toyota Sequoia Limited Pros/Cons

Limited models of the 2023 Toyota Sequoia have a 14.0-inch infotainment screen. Heated, ventilated, and memory seats, plus a power-folding third row, are standard. Sequoia Limited has second- and third-row manual sunshades. Like the SR5, it may be outfitted with TRD Off-Road. 2023 Sequoia Limited begins at $66,195 2WD and $69,195 4WD.

2023 Toyota Sequoia Platinum Pros/Cons

Toyota adds luxurious items to the Sequoia Platinum model. Standard second-row heated/ventilated captain's seats. The inside has a JBL music system, head-up display, and wireless charging. Toyota adds a panoramic sunroof, LED headlights, sequential turn signals, and rain-sensing wipers. 2WD Sequoia Platinum begins at $72,395 and 4WD at $75,395.

2023 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro pros/cons

Sequoia TRD Pro is a three-row off-road SUV. Mechanical modifications include TRD-tuned Fox internal-bypass shocks, an aluminum TRD front skidplate, a selectable locking rear differential, and Toyota's Multi-Terrain Select driving modes. The Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro has a heated steering wheel, second-row captain's chairs, and TRD-branded seats and shift knob. TRD-specific elements include a roof rack, grille with a light bar, and grille-top marker lights. The Sequoia TRD Pro has offset 18-inch black wheels. The TRD Pro begins at $78,395 with 4WD.

2023 Toyota Sequoia Capstone pros/cons

The Sequoia's most luxury trim is the Capstone. The Sequoia Capstone has chrome exterior highlights, 22-inch chrome wheels, motorized running boards, and perforated black-and-white leather seats. Toyota's passenger dashboard features American walnut and LED ambient lighting. Toyota quiets the Capstone's front doors with acoustic glass. Toyota Sequoia Capstone 2WD costs $76,795 and 4WD costs $79,795.

Best 2023 Toyota Sequoia trim?

We suggest the 2023 Toyota Sequoia SR5 with 4WD. Every Sequoia has the same power output, and the SR5 includes loads of common device interface and safety measures.

The Sequoia SR5's 18-inch wheels have enough sidewall to give a more pleasant ride than the bigger wheels on higher trim levels. TRD Off-Road adds off-road capabilities, while Limited adds a bigger screen. The 2023 Toyota Sequoia SR5 is well-equipped and the trim we'd purchase.
